I still believe that General Mattis was the best thing to happen to the Defense Department is decades and now Trump, the non-military mind failed (like most presidents) to listen to a man of great experience. It is truly sad.

I would agree if Mattis had stuck to defense. Sadly, he wandered off the tracks into the realm of diplomacy. His work at strengthening the military organically was magnificent. Sadly, his attempts to strengthen defense through alliances was the purview of the State Department
