I know it is fashionable for those on the left to try to drive a wedge between Trump and his staff, notably Mattis. Mattis answered the wedge drivers directly and succinctly so it will probably be ignored by most of the media. For those unwilling to open the article, here are two extended quotes:

The first excerpted quote is a good one, and one I've lived by throughout my career. Although it's tough being of Centrist mindset in the military, as I'm constantly devil's advocate regardless of whether the President is Democrat or Republican.
