Roger that. Second sequence looks like a night fire demonstration. You can hear the hum of GAU and explosion looks like pre-planned demo with foogas or similar. They do one at Quantico for every Basic Officer School (TBS) class or when they want to show off for VIP's. It's at a remote part of base near David's Crossroads and is very impressive. Range Control seals off the road after everyone gets in the viewing area, because it would not be a good idea to be on receiving end as you say. They called it Mad Moment when I shot the pic in 1980. I used a shutter release cable for Nikon FM SLR on tripod, and you can make out the blurred image of Marine moving to control his gun section. Those were M60's but there is still no probability of life in that interlocking field of fire. We didn't have M249 SAW yet. They do a day version also that incorporates supporting arms and aviation.

CSM Richard StCyr - Thanks. I think I shot about half a roll, but only scanned this one a few years back. Holding the shutter open made the tracers last a few seconds. It seems like a lifetime ago, but time flies when you're having fun. Best wishes.

Thank you for the cool video, and song, nothing like a little Metallica in the morning.
