That's the year that Jethro Tull infamously won the Grammy for "Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance", of which they are neither.

In the original video for the song Metallica incorporated clips of the anti-war movie "Johnny Got His Gun" into the song video. The main character WWI Soldier is injured in a hospital. He's a quadriplegic, blind, deaf, can't speak or smell. He eventually communicates via Morse Code by nodding his head. He asks to be euthanized, but the Army refuses. So he's left trapped in his body.
