I am not currently, nor have I ever been, a Colorodan. Not even stationed there. So, while I have my opinions, I will let Colorado do Colorado. Their state Constitution is different than mine. How their state separates and enumerates their powers is different than mine. So I have to assume that their SCOC got it right for their state, regardless of my opinion - just like I assume that our SCOTUS gets it right for the nation, regardless of my opinion.
Now, if SCOTUS takes this up and wants to render a national Constitution ruling, I will be all ears - and have my opinions about that as well.
All that being said, I *was* a Michigander for the first 40 years of my life, and I *do* know their Constitution and powers at least somewhat. To be perfectly honest, I am a bit surprised. Article is behind a paywall, so all I have to go off is headline and 1st sentence. But I am surprised that SCOM chose to kick the can down the road, as that is what this ruling - or, actually, refusal to ruling- does. The Michigan courts essentially said "we have no authority in the primary, come talk to us if he makes it to the general." And they did that from the bottom all the way to the top. I would have expected SCOM to at least weigh in on the merits, but they did nothing.
But, it is a minor victory for Trump (bear in mind, basically all of the Michigan courts left the door wide open for removing Trump from the general election ballot). So I am sure we will hear a LOT about it in the coming days.
