Mike Moschkin's Story - Battle in the HOBO Woods - Victory for Veterans

This is a story worth reading in my opinion from one of our past Vietnam War Veterans. If this doesn't cause some watering eyes, nothing will.

Mike resides in Bangkok, Thailand and here is a prelude to his personal story and account of the Battle in the HOBO Woods:

"It is as I just wrote to you "since then until this ghastly tale is told the heart within me burns" . I have been back to Vietnam many times now . I was hoping to find some one of rank who knew why those bodies were placed at my position because I read the enemies word could be used to award the MOH to be honest with you. I didn't write how many VC I shot because it becomes a pissing contest in the minds of some Vietnam Vets. I once wrote I shot over 150 VC a guy got indignat with me close to saying I was lying. My father told me the truth never changes a lie you never know where to begin again. I only talk the truth and not mention directly the numbers because it boggles most peoples minds. They were not there doing what I had to do to survive the situation we were in ! I am not proud that I shot that many people but I did not wantonly but out of necessity of the moment. I am 72 now and it would help my sons understand why dad is the way he is. The MOH would be the Albatross to me."

"In the photo I am standing on the left then Clarance Bishop ( grenadier Alpha Team) Michael O'Shaughnessy (Platoon RTO) , Anthony Greco (Rifleman Bravo Team 1st Squad he was on the left flank with me ), Ronnie Baily (Rifleman Alpha Team) and William Harnack (Team Leader Alpha Team). Except for O'Shaughnessy we are all members of the 1st Squad. The picture was taken a day or two after our July 19th, 1966 Battle in the HoBo Woods.

Greco ran out of AMMO in a half hour . Leaving me to hold the left flank alone for 31/2 hours!"
