It's not just the moving process but the housing. The housing you get is based on the number of rooms you need. You may be paying 1200 in BAH while your lower ranking neighbor only pays 700 for the same house. It's no different then income based housing. You make more so you pay more for the same thing. They are usually in poor condition and the move out "inspectors " are crooks. They know you are not responsible for carpet that is more than 5 years old but will charge you anyway. My brother-in-law once had to pay a $125 cleaning fee bc there was rust around ONE bolt on the toilet. Meanwhile, in the 2 years they were in that house they couldn't use the upstairs shower bc it was permanently clogged. 2 days before Thanksgiving the stove/oven went out, maintenance told me to "just use your neighbor's " and refused to come out for a week. Military housing doesn't just need a physical overhaul but needs to do something about how the civilian contractors "rent" and run things.

I have definitely seen this. One of the worst things is housing not ready when you are to move in. Our housing had ants, cockroaches, and mice when we moved into it. Because it is condo style living they only do pest control in your section of that one building. The pests end up just moving to another location. Home remedies have saved us. It felt very unwelcoming. We have some friends who are here on post and had a similar experience. Their "move in ready" housing had burnt carpet and animal stench. Sad!

80s and 90s... same issues with pests and damage. Then at move out they hit you on the problems that had been there since move in. Luckily we had documentation and pictures from our move in inspection. Housing was pissed.
