I though beauty contests were misogynist events orchestrated by men to keep women down.

I suppose posting my opinion is warranted as well.

1) A lot of feminists believe that these contests are deplorable events; outdated madness put on as a display of 'women are objects for male amusement.' I don't personally follow these events as I really don't care. The only reason I found out about this is because a co-worker mentioned it. I mean, it is great that she won the event, and I am proud of her. But, in all honesty, I think beauty pageants are dumb. Same applies to Mr. Universe and such as well.

2) I feel that, as an Officer in the United States Military, competing in beauty pageants is unacceptable. As a female in the Military, you are supposed to be a professional. How is competing in a setting such as this professional? Women who fit into the "Pageant Girl" motif do not belong in the military. If she wasn't a female such as this, I don't feel she would have competed in the first place.

You will notice that I consistently referred to it is a beauty pageant. That is what it is, and I cannot be swayed otherwise.
