As a junior enlisted was given free reign, empowering me to hone my own skill set and obtaining a name for myself as the GO-TO soldier to get things done! My mentor and first PLT SGT, now MSG Jon Faggion (Ret), is a guy I will never forget! Gave me enough room but yanked my chain when I needed, so I knew my boundaries of both authority and a future of UCMJ if having gone in the wrong direction. He lit my ass up a number of times, I learned the hard way - oh so many push-ups in Iron Horse fashion. But I also learned how to get things done in a red tape society. Learned my GO-TO personnel when I needed to get things done. Without knowing, taught me leadership skills and time management! Forever grateful for his way of mentoring me! He told me right before I PCS’d something that made sense and why he was so hard on me. He used to work for my WO father years prior, and out of respect, wasn’t giving me any privileges and going to train me as an old NCO would. Thirty years on, I’m a better person, better husband and father and have been successful at every job I’ve assumed!
