The Virginia Department of Veterans Services should be very proud of their work in helping to expose civilian healthcare to the kind of quality healthcare specialist our MMACs (Military Medics and Corpsmen) are via their training and diverse healthcare experience received while in service, that are unique and should be valued even more by the commercial healthcare industry.

By continuing to develop MMACs, who bring unique experiences in direct healthcare to the commercial market place and learning how civilian healthcare can take greater advantage of their critical and creative thinking and extensive operational planning skills, especially from the ranks of the senior enlisted is a human resource that is yet untapped to its fullest potential.

The Warrior-Healer offers civilian health the kind of links (insights) into caring for and nurturing back to health veterans that they will soon need to better understand and integrate into each and every aspect of daily healthcare management.

This is a great thing for enlisted medical personnel to further careers in the VA system as civilians and put their military training and experience to use. The unfortunate thing is that outside the VA and dod you can only work up to what your licenses or certification allows you to do and what the facility is willing to allow you to do.

Yes, but creating a pipeline of "healthcare technicians" that can earn a living while attending nursing or other programs will not leave these valuable skills out in the cold, and for the astute healthcare organization, like Bon Secours, allows them to mentor and develop assets in-house that have staying power a loyal and skilled employees that are more than capable of delivering high quality healthcare under nursing and medical leadership with a heart to mentor and demeanor designed to not waste available talent that is right now being largely - ignored.

Why can't MMACs be allow to challenge the LPN boards in any state or at least the CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) exam based on their Medical - MOC (Military Occupation Code)? What I am saying is that MOCs like: (1) USA - 68C,68W; USAF - 4N0X1; USCG - HS-ID; USN - HM-8402, HM-8403, HM-8404, HM-8427, HM-8494, HM-8425, and HM-8432. Have, because of their duties and responsibilities have the extensive training and experiences to challenge such exams. If an LPN or CMA prep course is needed it seems like an opportunity for the junior colleges (to make money) and to offer a 30-day 5 day a week 6-8 hr a day prep course with exam at the end for MMACs with these MOCs to begin with to be able to get "certified". with METC (http://www.metc.mil/degreebridge/) and USUHS (https://www.usuhs.edu/emdp2) working hard to enhance bridge training programs across the nation that tap into the value of our MMACs and give them a way progress and not regress is something every MMAC (active duty to retiree) should be aware of and continue to advocate via their state houses and the US Congress.

Take a look at this slide. It was a recent review of the post GWI and GWII MMACs in a southern state by health regions. Four regions were reviewed. Can you see why Bon Secours is seeing the value of MMACs. They have the skills and capacity to be game changers in the healthcare market place. I am just saying, is the nation losing out on the skills of the valuable human resources, because they don't understand the nature and skills development of today's MMACs? If the answer is YES then it is about time healthcare system CEOs take a trip to METC (http://www.metc.mil/academics/Metrics/) to see the quality of training this new generation of MMACs is getting.

In closing, it only take (1) courageous healthcare system, like Bon Secours, who is willing dig in and recognize their is a disconnect and work with programs like the Virginia DVS MMAC program to fix this. We are not talking about lowering standards, if anything MMACs, by their very nature and experiences have been held to a much higher standard. Why not take that already held standard and make a difference in the lives of these valuable human assets and create a hands on academic rigor that both teaches and inspires!?!!?!! I don't think that is too much to ask!
