Some of this school standard stuff has gotten way out of hand.
I can understand school uniforms or restricting certain brands because of cost issues and such. But hair? You have got to be kidding me, this is not a military school, like St. Johns or the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen.

My initial response would be why do I have to have a religious or cultural excuse for my child to grow long hair? Is the school promoting religious or cultural bigotry?

Well, I have short hair (because I'm going bald and choose to shave it down anyway...lol!) My son has longer hair, but still within limits because he goes to a Christian school, and they do have expectations.
But for a public school to push short hair seems silly. When I was in HS, lots of guys had long hair. Heck, their hair was long, permed and blown up into those giant 80's rocker hairstyles. Didn't seem like anyone cared about it.
