I still think the cultural mindset misses the mark. Until each gender's perspective is considered in needs for different scenarios, and the potential earnings, needs, costs, etc., are calculated in as they would apply to those needs, then gender equality cannot possibly happen. A single parent is a single parent is a single parent. Male single parents have some needs that differ from Female single parents. Those differences should be considered as well as other kinds of issues that men face and that women face. We are different. We have different strengths that work at all levels and fields of commerce, agriculture, and industry. We need mutual acknowledgement and respect for those differences. We also need to accept (individually within ourselves and in a global mindset) that there are exceptions where each gender can have strengths / weaknesses that are not usually associated with said gender. If we look at personal strengths, personalities and gifts first, then look to the needs of the person (parental status, marital status, age needs, health needs, and so on) after the "right fit for the right place" in other areas is settled, we have a chance of heading in the right direction. Then, and only then, will I consider that gender equality is on the way. I still do not see any of that happening as a rule. Single dads as primary custodians are either disrespected or coddled. Single moms are assumed to be given child support benefits or that they will try to shirk duties to run home to their babies. Not always, but I've seen it too often to say we are there. It is getting better though. I hope it keeps going. Thanks for posting.
