When I was in Iraq, I read the Koran and the Sura and the Hadiths. The so-called 'fundamentalists' are simply doing precisely what these texts tell them to do. Islam is barely compatible with itself and every single place it comes into contact with other civilizations, there is violence and bloodshed. Islam is particularly incompatible with western civilization which places an emphasis on individual rights, separation of church & state, rule of law, etc.

Well, western civilization USED TO place emphasis on these things, but reading many posts by people I would otherwise respect, I am beginning to wonder.

Part of the problem with a good culture, like a good government or a good economy, is that it tends to be taken for granted. As the Founders said, the price of freedom is eternal vigilance. And as Dr. Thomas Sowell said, the history of the last 30 years is one of trading in what works for what sounds good. That said, pain is the best teacher that there is; if the pain of the last 7 years hasn't taught us then we can only hope that the pain inevitable in a Sanders or Clinton Presidency will do so without causing enough damage to destroy us. Provided enough damage hasn't been done already...

Pay particular attention to what this guy says about the difference between the Bible and the Quran and you'll get a sense of what the rest of the world is up against.
