He doesn’t want to give up his armed security for himself and his family. Just wants to take your guns so your defenseless.

MSgt C Madd Maybe you have just nailed the way to end the discussion. Require any ban on firearms to include any non military agency, to include Secret Service, IRS, DHS, and Law Enforcement at the federal, state, and local level. See how quick they are to want guns banned when it means giving up their armed security.
As an aside, I would not want to see that because Law Enforcement is dangerous enough without taking away the ability for them to defend themselves with deadly force if necessary.

PO3 Steven Sherrill - Given there are more armed federal agents than active duty US Marines, perhaps we should question the need for some agencies (EPA, Dept of Education, IRS, BLM, FDA) to be armed as heavily as they currently are.

CDR Dan Cunningham - or at all. If they need an armed response, call in the FBI or the U.S. Marshal Service that is what they are there for.

SGT (Join to see) Happy to discuss ending gun violence. The problem is that this moron doesn't want to end gun violence. He wants to end the right of the people to keep and bear arms. That is a far cry from ending gun violence. I agree with him that gun violence needs to be ended. I also think we should all live on palatial estates where unicorns fart 100 dollar bills on command so we can simply relax by the pool all day. Neither is the real world. In the real world, there are people who want to harm others. Those people, once they work up the courage to act on that want, will find a way to do so. That is not an opinion, that is demonstrated fact. When London is ready to ban KITCHEN knives with a point on them because the criminal element has decided that those make a good weapon, the argument for a weapon ban solving the problem is weakened. Every time some asshole drives a box truck through a crowd, the argument that it is guns that cause the problem is weakened. So Senator Murphy, you want to reduce violence? Let's reduce violence. What is your plan for doing so? Banning a tool is not a solution, it just requires an evolution of the perpetrators. So let's talk about ending violence.
Number 1: Agencies need to do their damned job. The school in FL, the church in TX, and the club in FL (roughly 75 deaths) could have been prevented had agencies followed up on disciplinary action, reported a domestic abuser to the FBI Database, or completed an investigation into a potential threat.
Number 2: Teach humanity. Teach people the value of diversity instead of teaching people to fear diversity. Columbine HS, Parkland FL, Santa Fe TX all could have been mitigated had the schools dealt with bullying. Teach kids to treat each other with dignity and respect, and discipline those who refuse to do so. Show them that bullying will not be tolerated before these kids show up at school with a gun to handle the problem themselves.
Number 3: Stop providing mass shooters with soft targets. Columbine, Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech, Parkland, Santa Fe, and the list can go on, all "Gun Free Zones" that is until a gunman shows up and starts shooting. Gun free zones only impact the law abiding. A person intent on killing their fellow students is not going to care that they catch an additional charge for violating a gun free zone. Harden the schools. Fire exits should all have a silent alarm that goes to FD and PD so that if they are opened authorities are notified. Entry to the property should be through a single fortified entry where a shooter has to go through an armed LEO to begin their spree. Require students to wear a color of the day, and a school ID badge so that anyone who doesn't belong stands out on the property.
Number 4: Treat mental health as a serious condition which requires medical care. Stop treating it as an afterthought, or the punchline to a joke.
Number 5: Take an honest look at the failure of gun control measures. Look at places like Chicago, California, New York, Boston. All places that have either been the site of horrible acts of violence, have a high crime rate, or both. Look at the worst terrorist attack on American Soil. 19 men used ZERO guns to kills over three thousand Americans, ground all air traffic, and start a war that has been going on for 16 years. In Boston, two guys with nails, ball bearings, fireworks, and pressure cookers killed and maimed during an event that was supposed to be a celebration. In California a couple used guns that were already banned to gun down co workers and go on a rampage. It illustrates two things about focusing on guns. First, guns are not the only way that violence occurs. Second, those intent on using a gun to commit an act of violence will find a way regardless of bans and laws.
Sorry this was so long.

PO3 Steven Sherrill Great opinion piece, good read, salient points of discussion. only use of the red pen is the apology at the end.

His problem is guns. That is not the problem regarding school shootings. Lack of trained and armed security personnel, lack of trained and armed staff, lack of different government agencies to report individuals to the Nix system, lack of mental health care, poor parenting practices, etc, etc. These are what needs to be addressed before we will have meaningful discussions on how to keep our children safe.
