I am working on getting a server in my house as well, but mine will be for something other than just entertainment purposes. It would be nice to have something that I can use for in the house, in any room however. My biggest roadblock at the moment is finding the funds to do so.

SPC Jeremy Gardner I feel your pain. It took me several months to gather the parts I needed to build mine. Luckily, I was in Japan at the time, and the Japanese Yen was weak against the USD. So I was able to save some money that way.

I am looking at building a custom computer desk and setting up my office space to be a little more efficient, not just as an office, but as an entertainment room as me and my family spend most of our time in it.

I have a 4 Bay QNAP (w/4xWD 3TB drives Raid 5) SAN with a PLEX server installed. I use FireTV to stream to two rooms, plus my son has a FireTV stick for Christmas. PLEX is now offering DVR and Live TV for us cable cutters who just use an antenna for local TV if needed, but I can't watch the crap on tv that resembles entertainment any longer. I'll be upgrading to a 6 bay QNAP soon, not that I need it, but it will future proof any storage I'll need in the future.

Cpl (Join to see) I thought about doing a NAS, but I found it was cheaper for me to convert my old HTPC over to a server. It allowed me to use my old hardware.

There is nothing wrong with that strategy at all. My workstation has recycled drives in it, also. I have already copied all working documents and source code to my nas for safety though. Now they just are used for temp storage while I rip/compress all of my dvd/blurays for my nas.

Wow, you have 9+ TB of storage? Impressive. I make do with 4. And my 'server' is just my main PC connected to my TV. Your setup is awesome. I've never heard of your case manufacturer, though. Is that an Asian company? (Or, was?).

SN Greg Wright If I remember correctly, they were a French company. They did not sell many cases to consumers. Most of their products were produced for companies who made pre-built systems.
