Given the increasing importance of close air support in the escalating war in Myanmar's north, the precision-strike capabilities of the JF-17 Thunder in its ground-attack role will not have been lost on MAF planners.

Since they entered service with the PAF, these aircraft have been repeatedly committed in support of counter-insurgency operations in Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

Sources noted that MAF planners have also expressed interest in the JF-17 Thunder's maritime capabilities as the Myanmar Navy continues to develop its bluewater reach into the Bay of Bengal. The fighter can be equipped with the Chinese C-802 anti-ship missile.
