Interesting article. I wonder if the women were warriors as well?

New findings have shown that women were in fact warriors in Scandinavian society. But, with a lack of evidence, i.e. an abundance of weapons found, it is hard to say this was a band of warriors. Before the Great Heathen Army/Hoard, Scandinavians were setting out in discovery of new lands for farming as well as possible trade. Due to the lack of a weapons cache, I would lean to a beginning of a settlement that may have been killed and later discovered by fellow friends.

The dating comes from the Great Viking Army period. And Viking weapons & ornaments were found in graves from the same period, in the same place.

Even if they were farmers, a collective mass grave with evidence of violent death is not indicative of peaceful, pastoral intent.
