TSgt Joe C. thanks for the historical share: in 1776, shortly after the American victory at Boston, Massachusetts, General George Washington orders Brigadier General Nathanael Greene to take command of Long Island.

Gen Greene certainly was an outstanding general and the British with their command of the sea could have maneuvered their army to hit the American Continentals at their weakest point. The city of New York was a Tory city and so many spies would give the British accurate troop dispositions.

Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that on April 29, 1776 shortly after the American victory at Boston, Massachusetts, General George Washington ordered Brigadier General Nathanael Greene to take command of Long Island and set up defensive positions against a possible British attack on New York City.
