I am behind it 100%, but I am sure it will be challenged by my home State and a few others...California, New York, maybe Illinois and a handful of others. The issue will be a conflict with local policies that don't allow gun ownership...SF, Chicago (how ironic), New York, etc.

The rules are very parochial in California. I live in the Central Valley. Here the County Sherriff is the one that issues CCL's for the County. Most of our Sherriff's in this region believe citizens carrying is a good thing; so it is really not very difficult to get a CCL where I live. A majority of my local friends have their CCL, so do some of their wives. At the same time many cities, including San Francisco have been very restrictive on gun ownership, let alone issuing CCL's. SF does not allow a POS for firearms within the City. So it goes beyond State rights, the question will be whether a Charter city can impose a more restrictive local ordinance contradicting Federal regulations. My guess is, the Feds won't want to fight it, even if they think they can win. They'll let the locals decide for themselves; which contradicts the intent of a Federal carry permit.

SSgt Christopher Brose - You are correct in your assessment. States that have any form of CWL will be required to recognize residents of other states that have them from their state of residence. But if a state does not issue any form of CWL they would not be required, which is no state. Good observation.

If you read carefully you will see the comment was more directed at local ordinances; cities that do not allow firearms.

Yes, we can only hope that people who do not know about or know very little would simply look to Vermont as a perfect example of how well it can and does work. The ONLY state that has never had any requirements for ownership or carrying of firearms, and yet the blood does not run red in the streets. Thanks for setting the example for the rest of the country!
