Reading this article, one thing comes to mind... What the hell is a "large aperture water-backed transducer"? Bwah?
Clearly, I DON'T KNOW NUTHIN' 'BOUT NO NEW FANGLED SONAR DOO-HICKEY THINGAMAJIGS!!!!! And if anybody on one of the new Virginia Class can tell us how cool / not cool the fly-by-wire system is, that'd be great. Less hydraulic leaks = DAMN GOOD THING, right?
But ya know what, boiling water with Mr. Atom doesn't change much... Shim in... Shim out... Make turns for 3 knots... Sync and close... "Request permission to shift the Electric Plant to a Half-Power Lineup on the Starboard Turbine Generator for TRAINING!" Too rah loo rah loo ray!!!!
Makes me wanna don a poopy-suit and grab a new qual card!
BTW, the first of these boats is "predicted" to cost upwards of $12 BILLION. The other 11 will be cheap - only $5 BILLION each...
DAY-UM!!!!
