This has been a fascinating story since it broke out. As an old Damage Crontrol Assistant (DCA) who has fought more shipboard fires and floodings than I can count, I am confident there is much more to this story. Why the secrecy? How is it that seaman apprentice is able to completely destroy the Bonnie Dick? Where was the contractor's fire marshall? Where was the port engineer? Where was the ship's company Safety Officer? Where was the ship's Chief Engineer? Where was the ship's DCA? Where was the ship's Commanding Officer? How derelict were all those responsible officers to allow a situation where a seaman duece could burn a major vessel to the waterline? And, as an previous SCPO, where the hell was the chief's mess - the back bone of the Navy? I suspect we are told nothing of the real story.
