It's been posted 3 or 4 times, but it's still a topic of discussion.. I disagree with the whole thing. You can't make an instant Chief... Let them come in under a new rank structure or pay them more.. But the rank is something earned - not given.

Why can't you do it? I think you of all people could see the benefit being how you work in IT and the Navy is very far behind the curve when it comes to IT. Why wouldn't it make sense to pull leaders from the civilian sector especially if they are up-to-date on new technologies that the Navy won't pay for sailors to learn?

That's fine, but they shouldn't come in as a Chief.. Officer ranks or lower enlisted with a large amount of specialty pay..

ENS (Join to see) - That is reasonable. Reading through some of this stuff, I don't think they would make many chiefs with this process.

PO1 (Join to see) cannot see entry as a Chief. Heard this abomination years ago. If the powers that be need specialists, then make them specialists. How hard do you have to make it?

BIGGEST mistake the Navy could make. CPO's and Officers are trained from the beginning to lead and attain the rank, Not just thrown into it from the beginning.
