To me, it sounds like a PR move... "How do we get past the deaths of 17 sailors because we know we pile on too much stuff, and know that proficiency suffers greatly for it." Now, BP and Maersk, how did you guys get past your F'ups? The Navy knows what the problem is, the question is do they really want to face the problem and do something about it...

I can see your point, and you're probably right, there's an element of CYA in this. Still, the pool they're tapping is vast, and if they actually listen, it can't help but be good.

SN Greg Wright - I just hope that they listen, we don't have a really good track record on that... Maybe with the magnitude and severity of these 2 accidents, they will open their eyes and ears and shut their pie holes!

Although the percentages are skewed, this kind of makes one wonder, Greg. From BBC. I guarantee if my Yukon XL hits a Leaf, mine would be paint scraped while the Leaf would be a total loss.

According to data from insurance firm Allianz, there were 85 total losses of large ships recorded in 2016, a fall of 16% on the previous year. Of all 85, just one total loss was the result of a collision.
