He cared about his crew, but went outside the lifelines. Don't know what other methods he had used, had he talked to the COC first, but airing dirty laundry outside the lifelines will always get you canned.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - It was the first thing all brand new Ensigns learn... my suspicion is that he didn't complain to his COC, and "leaked" it to the press. You can care about your troops, and you should, but you aren't doing them any good in CIVLANT...

It looks to me like you said his career ended for caring for his crew. Isn’t that different than saying he ruined his career. Your post in my opinion seems to imply that he honorably violated policy for the sake of his crew. Maybe I’m wrong but that’s how I interpreted your post.

Cpl Mark Oresko - His career ended because he went outside (I assume) the lifelines. Once you do that, you know dang well that your career is going to be cut short, and at that point you can't do anything else for your crew. You can care for your crew and work with the system, so you can continue to care for them. Knowing what was going to happen, I would submit is actually negligent to his crew that he cared for. I will always, always side on caring for your people, but you have to do it the right way so that you can still care about them.

LT Brad McInnis I've seen nothing that says he leaked anything. Could be but pretty unlikely.

There has to be someplace left that the TRUTH counts for something. Had there been deaths would they have dumped them off the fantail? The powers that determined his relief are part of the problem not the solution.

Even in Vietnam we had senior and flag officers who bucked the WH. Afraid those days are long gone in today's military.
