My last Ship was a Cruiser and she should have been decommed, Everything on it was out of date and behind the power curve for modern war fighting. She is now used as a Decoy for a Carrier group, let that sink in we have a ship with 360 Sailors on it who's sole mission is to be a target to save a Carrier. The reason she does this job is she has zero functionality as an independent steamer. Now they want to bring back ships even older and dump how much money into them so they don't sink on their first outing? We have DDG's tied up at the pier that cant even afford Paint or parts, but they will waste millions or even Billions bring these old buckets back?
Don't just don't, Put that money into what's currently tied up at the Pier and into the Sailors. Improve what we have and use. I know somewhere there is some old ADM that misses his Frigate and harkens back to the good old days, My advice to him is pull out the scrap book sit on the porch and have a mint julep, and let the past stay there. We need new Ships and new systems to deal with the NEW threats around the world.

One well trained and equipped US Navy ship is worth so much more than a rehabbed rust bucket that may not float!

Two of them are sitting in the bone yard here at Pearl Harbor. They are in rough shape. These things would need a new combat system, SONAR system, RADARs, probably throw a 1 or 2 module VLS launcher up front as well, just to protect themselves from todays modern threats.

SCPO (Join to see) I bet the view out of your office window is amazing you lucky dog! On the FFG's, it is unbelievable the amount of work that would need to be done just to get C2 compatibility. My guess is that this idea is a trial balloon being floated by someone who has never served on a ship.
