In 1967 my family lived on Ft Baker CA, a small post mostly used for housing for people working on the Presidio of SF. It sat right on the shore at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge. The Enterprise returned from VN to Alemeda NAS and it was a big deal when it entered SF Bay under the Golden Gate Bridge. Everyone lined the shore, and the ship had sailors lined up along the deck. It seemed like it barely squeezed under the bridge. It was quite an awe inspiring sight of mi,itary power at the time. This young teenager was very impressed(but not nearly enough to want to go Navy vs Army). ;)

Man we get rid of things that have helped us win wars and after we don't need her we scrap her that's human nature it's sad but in the time of need the USA Enterprise will come back to help us win another war.
