If it was small arms ammo, it's an idiotic overreaction. If it was HE mortar rounds from WW2, that's a different matter. Every so often, some kid gets hurt playing in the gullies near the homes north of San Diego built on the Marine Corps old ranges from WW2.

That's what I thought at first. However the article also says they were found underneath the house in a box, and that the police have been there before to dispose of, get this, shotgun shells.

Yeah, it's a total non story. But civilians will sensationalize anything. Wait til tomorrow, WaPo & Huffington will have an expose on how it's Trump's fault and a danger to innocent undocumented democratic voters in Bexar County.

We fly our Hazardous Device Techs out several times a year to the old Patton tank training areas in our deserts in SoCal. People are still finding old tank mine simulators out there and call it in.

I found about that much ammo under my back steps when I bought my current house. Almost a full box worth of .45ACP. I brought it to my work bench and separated it for scrap. Civilian bomb squads must get jumpy easily.

SPC Casey Ashfield in their defense, if one needs to justify the existence of their job, one will over react every chance they get so as to prove their worth. That is human nature.
