When it comes to US territories, much of mainland Americans are ignorant on the subject of citizenship. It's not covered very well in US history classes. Just ask Americans what D.C. stands for and why Washington D.C. is unique compared to other cities, the states, and the territories. Unless you live in D.C. it's uniqueness under rule of law and governance means nothing to others.

Polls and stats are wonderful things, they can support any ignorant statement you wish to make. Like say "Nearly Half of Americans Don’t Know Puerto Ricans Are Fellow Citizens"
And then those with bias and agenda pass on the BS "results" not because they know them to be true, but because it supports their personal bias and agenda.

Are you disputing the facts or just ranting? When I got to Delaware and said I had just come from New Mexicio many people asked when I got back to the US. A huge number of Americans are utterly ignorant of Geography even of their own nation. The ignorance mentioned in the article seem to be underplayed, if anything.

You can add there is a large portion of our population that cannot name their own senators, or representatives. Cannot look at a map of the globe and identify more than 5 countries etc. It is embarrassing.

It's an indictment of our education system. An education system we don't seem to want to fix.
