I only can see two changes from the previous regulation. What are your thoughts on the new Retention changes?

To the "up or out portion." If you cant make E-5 in 8 years or E-6 in 14 years you probably dont deserve to be in in the first place and deserve to be dropped

I would agree with you, but there are MOSs that always have high points, and little time to actually take extra courses such as college. Secondarily, the older NCOs would be grandfathered in, so they would stay while younger soldiers would not advance, thus also keeping the points high in that particular MOS due to senior NCOs "riding it out" at whatever rank they've been since 1997.

I'm sorry. I said senior NCOs. I meant senior citizen, not necessarily those of higher NCO rank. I know some Sgt E5 types that have been in for some time.

Agreed, when I was in they were constantly changing rank requirements to meet the Army staffing needs. Some MOS fields just dont hve the upward progress that others do.
