Pretty good idea. Whirlybirds are pretty vulnerable and I want them to have whatever defense & advantage they can have to save themselves!

They really do either need something new or they need to severely refine CMWS.. With as many false hits as that system throws out, you eventually become kind of deaf to the audible warning and blind to the flares.

SSG (Join to see) I thought the Boy Who Cried Wolf was just a fable? That is a horrible side-effect of a system that has uncured flaws. Deadly, even. Especially if you're in & out of a hostile situation as is, your attention is already divided. If a system that is constantly going to sounds, how much attention does the pilot truly pay to it when surrounded by those other things?

There was one time where we were taking off out of an LZ at a FOB and as we crossed the wire it started pooping flares for no good reason. Thankfully we were just above the flare burnout altitude, otherwise some houses and children would've probably been burned.
