Revisionist history is the flavor of the day now. The simple fact that removing the evidence of historic events is occurring is proof that socialism is alive and well in America today. The utopia they want to create is nothing but a lie. A lie that needs to be dragged kicking and screaming in to the light of day. To then have the sunlight disinfect it and rid us of it.
History is there to remind us of our triumphs and our mistakes. It must remain available to all of us.

Removing monuments SOME people find "offensive" (what isn't these days?) is the tangible evidence of history you don't like. The schools are the re-education camps of the socialist manifesto. They do not "teach" in the way that many of us grew up with anymore; everything is indoctrination and forced acceptance of ideas, things, and people that may or may not be acceptable to certain families and groups of people. Freedom of choice in education is gone. That is why homeschoolers have been so maligned recently. Teaching subjects and ideas outside the government-mandated ones is seen as "traitorous" somehow.

I agree that we cannot erase history - nor should we. However, we can, and should, put history in its rightful place. I don't know that we should continue to "honor" evil deeds and actions by maintaining their monuments, but rather, if we decide that those actions do not reflect the true nature and values of the nation (or city, or state, or whatever) that those monuments could be moved to a consolidated location where people can go to remember the bad things that have happened in order to teach them how not to repeat them.
