Since 1987, Merck has given billions of doses to the developing world for scabies, river blindness, lymphatic filariasis, elephantiasis, and assorted parasites without any safety alarms. In 2016, Merck distributed 900 million doses in Africa alone. “The drug is safe and has minor side effects,” a Merck spokesman said at the time. Unlike previous treatments, which had serious—sometimes fatal—side effects, ivermectin is safe and can be used on a wide scale. It is also a very effective treatment, and has single-handedly transformed the lives of millions of people. Over 30 years, ivermectin has been associated with only 379 reported deaths, an impressive death/dose reporting ratio of 1/10,584,408.

I think it's safe to go OTC with it.

Interestingly, molnupiravir (Merck's copycat formula being tested as their new Rona pill) utilizes an identical mechanism of action as ivermectin. Molnupiravir is a protease inhibitor and mimics the antiviral properties of ivermectin but unlike the ivermectin cost of 40¢/dose, molnupiravir will retail for $712 per dose.

Good for New Hampshire. I don't have a major issue with making it OTC.

I respect your opinion. I have friends on it for other issues, mostly Lupus and it seems pretty safe.

Lt Col Charlie Brown it is! Here in Dawsonville there are two Docs that prescribe it. It has been used throughout the pandemic with very good results around here.

The feed store has it in stock, although they are rationing it to one tube at a time.
