New rifle, light machine gun headed to close combat troops

Aren’t the 6.8 round heavier than the 5.56? That will probably affect the standard load out of ammo. Other than that, the weapon seems like a pretty good upgrade.

As I posted on another thread, I hope the transition is better than when we changed over to the M16.

I've been saying for a couple of months now the 5.56 was going away and all of you that like it so much needed to find something else. I shared the story when Sig 1st got the contract. 5.56 is going to get scarce in the future. I think the 6.8 is a better round than the 5.56. But, neither will cause me to give up my .30 cals.
