Columbia, MD wa the first planned community (at least the first one I ever heard of). I well remember that the collective "we" laughed at it. That wasn't "community" (we thought). Well, he who laughs last, laughs best. For 30 years I owned a house in a planned community, Mission Viejo, CA. It was well-planned. Broad boulevards connecting individual subdivisions provided rapid transit between them and with connections to the freeways. Schools, shopping, and public services were well distributed. Lots of parks and greenbelts gave it visual appeal. Disneylandish? I suppose so, but isn't Disneyland the "Happiest Place on Earth"?
