New VA initiative calls for inviting caregivers into the room during veterans’ medical visits

It is good to have someone else listening but you have to have the person's permission to do this.

I always ask my patients if they wish to have their significant others or caregivers come with them. I also always ask their permission if we head back the hallway and their significant other jumps up and starts walking with them I say “as long as it’s ok with the patient you can come back, but it has to be ok with them”.
