I would hate to be homeless. I would not be able to survive, esp in this day and age. There is plenty of homelessness here in Austin and it is not pretty. The city, a bastion of Liberals, has been doing about all it reasonably can to provide some sort of shelter on a temp basis, in cooperation with Salvation Army, churches and such. The city has a homeless shelter which is not nearly large enough, charitable organizations all over participate in a rotating network of services, meals, shelter, etc which a savy homeless person can avail themselves if they catch on to where and who has the services. This is fertile ground for a joint venture between government and charitable organizations to form a safety net. All of it is only temporary tho as a person needs a job/work to support himself over any prolonged period.

It is costly but there are efficient ways to do it. The US has an ample supply of shipping containers. There are companies that are turning these into mini efficiency apartments with insulation, plumbing etc. They are like mini house living. The government with private donations could build these up into neighborhoods to help people get back up on their feet. That is just one look, but again it takes money.
I hate to see anyone homeless or hungry, especially veterans...goes against everything the US stands for in my book. I know that some of them choose that lifestyle but a majority just end of there. It is an epidemic in the US that I wish we could focus on.
