I saw...so!eday, and please dont misunderstand !e, young Paduwan, good article, however, one day they'll actually build a nuclear thermal rocket capable of REAL spaceflight. And then I'll get REALY excited, of I see more than one or two on board for a change, you know? Still, good article, as I'd said....

Not to be cynical, but I was in the Guard and I know how these things work. But reading between the lines, this training sounds more like a reason to send a bunch of guys from New York to Hawaii rather than real mission inspired training.

I believe that NASA doesn’t have “space pods” for astronauts. Hell, we don’t even have our own equipment in space. Private companies are launching satellites. So this training is for some future need that may or may not occur.

When I was in the California Air Guard, I once saw a AES unit create a training mission to Wisconsin. They flew a whole bunch of guys there. However, the real reason for going to Wisconsin was that one of their unit members was getting married in Wisconsin. The entire mission was a cover to get the Air Force to fly them there for free. I found out because my Squadron was doing training at Volk Field. Our C-130 got diverted to pick them up because their bird broke down.
