A lot of companies will pay for your education but you have get hired first. There are many Colleges that offer online degrees.

Most of those companies will perform some preliminary tests to see if the people in question have the ability to become proficient.

Sounds like a great idea but if the college education was holding back blacks and Latinas from initial hiring, will not having the degree hold them back from advancement? We see it all the time in El Paso, those that do not speak English are limited to labor intensive jobs. Are people going to come back in a few years and complain only whites are being promoted? Are the companies doing this keeping the same wages or are they decreasing them on basis of lower requirements?

Great points sir. At the beginning if the article I was going to place the following, but I didn't because I felt it would turn off too many people:
I have mixed emotions about this article and practice because we’ve seen how badly it can end. As the internet ramped up in the 90’s we saw many people promoted into IT slots who were given the chance to take training as it developed because there were no formal IT courses in college at the time. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I saw a 50-50 mixed bag with 50% of the people flourishing and taking advantage of the opportunity, and the other 50% accepting the position who were slugs and/or couldn’t comprehend the concepts to perform correctly in their position responsibilities. The 50% bad were a drag on their overall organizations and it was impossible to do anything with them. It will work itself out, I was working in state service where the people couldn’t be fired, where in real companies I hope the slugs would be terminated.

I'm torn here. College degrees shouldn't be required for the vast majority of jobs out there, but the push for "diversity" is ridiculous and, in many cases, racism by a different name.

SGT Joseph Gunderson
MAJ Byron Oyler College isn't about "growth". College is about education, and many entry level jobs don't require a college education. There is no reason why an administrative assistant should need a BA, and this is but one inane example. Colleges exist to perpetuate the knowledge of western civilization, to pursue the furtherance of that knowledge, and to provide students with the knowledge necessary to be successful and productive members of society. Growth is nowhere in that mandate.
