No More Drill Sergeant 'Shark Attack': Army Moves Toward Kinder Basic Training Start

There was pressure at every step of my experience at Infantry School. It escalated at every stage from Reception Center (yes, some folded under the pressure there) to BCT to AIT to Infantry OCS. It could never equal the pressure of combat but I always believed that it served the purpose of preparing for combat. Obviously, no training could ever fully prepare anyone for combat which is why most are fairly worthless when the first enemy rounds come their way. To eliminate pressure to create "kinder Basic Training" is a disservice to trainees. But, that's just my opinion...
