But politics and ideologues care about science. They use and abuse it to make their case, to control people and their behavior.

This is why I snort when heated discussions about women in combat come up. (I know I'm opening a can of worms, but the whole point is that this is SCIENCE...not misogyny). On average, female bones are less dense, their lung capacity is lesser than males, and their muscle mass is less. These are scientific FACTS that no amount of political or social idealism is ever going to change, facts that were engendered by 300k years of evolution, or by God, take your pick. So yes, there will be some statistically-outlying females who make it into those positions, but it's never going to be in numbers that the previous administration wanted to push on the military...as we're already seeing. This is why I snort when the creationism vs evolution debate comes up. The big bang happened. This is scientific fact, only now, I'm doing to defend (as an agnostic) religious people vs science: any Supreme Being as described by most major religious could simply have used the Big Bang as His/Her/Their method of creation. Sorry scientists, neither evolution or the Big Bang rules God out. I say this as someone that believes the science FIRMLY demonstrates evolution -- humans share 70% of their DNA with TREES. That only happens in a commonly-evolved biosphere.
Science has been, and frequently still is, wrong, but that's a result of the Scientific method: propose a hypothesis, then set about proving it right or wrong by testing it. Once confirmed though? A given fact is impervious to Liberals, Conservatives, pink-hat-wearing liberal women, or avid, gun-toting wannabe militias.
