When I was operations officer at a strategic communications center, my home and office phone were monitored. I got married in that time and a background investigation was launched on my bride (I wish they had told me what they learned) I really wasn't concerned. I was boring and doing nothing wrong. Furthermore, I couldn't imagine anyone listening to all the mundane comings and goings of my life. That was before high powered computers were sitting on everyone's desk and now carried in everyone's pockets. Now, I think about it...

I've always been a little reticent about putting personal information online, even before it became known how invasive the data collection is. Now I'm thankful. I'm sure the information about me is enough to scare the snot out of me if I saw it all in one place, but it could be a lot worse if I had answered all those probing questions.
