The NorKs love the collective punishment. The fear keeps them in line only so long. The uncertainty about who is going to squeal on you for something real or imagined keeps people on the party line longer. The NorKs have a three generation punishment regime so that keeps families in line.

Part of the perpetuation of the fear of punishment is that many of those "replaced" etc are eventually returned to tell the tale. In this particular case a few may have been executed like the Commander, more so to have other Commanders tamp down everyone and everything in their units. It is rare for the NorK military to be disloyal.

unless i misinterpret past historical precedent... the families of those DMZ troops are going to be made examples of as well...

Deuternomy 28:45-47
45"So all these curses shall come on you and pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed, because you would not obey the LORD your God by keeping His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you. 46"They shall become a sign and a wonder on you and your descendants forever. 47"Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joy and a glad heart, for the abundance of all things;…

unfortunately, the house of Kim is the only god they have

Sgt Wayne Wood - yes entirely in the realm of the possible for 3 generations of their collective families to be punished.

Replaced or publicly executed? It's sad how that country is like one giant case of Stockholm Syndrome. You can bet every single person from the top-down would welcome Ol' Fatboy got executed, but every single one of them lives in the fear that the people around them could be Fatboy spies. So they all willingly dance like his puppets even if it means jumping to their own deaths.
