Iran is a non-starter as Israel will destroy them/take them out if and when they get a workable nuclear weapon. North Korea on the other hand already has working nuclear weapons. No, they don't have a workable delivery system for them, but a bomb in the back of a truck is still a bomb. Also, North Korea is close to a big trading partner, South Korea/China. Spillover in Iran won't affect us much.

Our threat is economics so we should be looking at counties like China with double the manpower to produce goods.

Good article but I think the author discounts the reach of Iran a little too easily. Iran has been funding a proxy war against us, and western civilization since 1979. They are a direct threat to oil production and transport, with each insurgency they cause. Directly or indirectly, you can trace nearly every terrorist action against the US to Iran in some way. not to mention the IED parts used in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I think we can end them by blowing up their one gasoline refinery then toss in a naval blockade the authority to sink any Iranian ships that cause them problems. The US Navy could win that conflict by themselves.

Cpl Joshua Caldwell - We did that in the 80's (Operation Praying Mantis). The only problem is that the Kuwaiti tanker war was able to be fought as we were sitting in Reagan's 600 ship navy. We had tons of bandwidth to sit a cruiser here, send a destroyer there. Hell, even two of the battleships (Missouri and New Jersey) got involved. All Iran would have to do today, is wait us out.

Back in the '70's and '80's while we were playing around with OPEC Brazil invested in Ethanol plants... now if the price of oil gets too high it gets stabilized with domestically grown Ethanol.

Meanwhile we pay farmers to NOT grow crops, buy mountains of corn and then let it rot in piles, and spend a ton of money fighting wars in the middle east to protect our national interest in oil.

Seems to me that when you find yourself in a hole the first step is to stop digging.

You can also trace every terrorist action in the middle east to Saudi Arabia and Israel, Americas biggest allies.
