I honestly think the only approach here is to open up full diplomatic relations with NK and full trading rights, except for arms. Freedom, or at least an Asian version can be expanded if we get in the front door with trading. Any other option will cost way too many lives. NK will become the new China which is no where near as totalitarian as they used to be. Is Trump the new Nixon diplomatically? I don't know, but history will tell. Before never-Trumpers jump on the Nixon comment do some research first to see how respected Nixon was diplomatically. You may not like Pres Trump, and honestly I understand, but we as Americans should always be cheering for his and our success.

I admired “Tricky Dick” whose only downfall was his mother-based insecurities. I could relate to unbridled ambition in the face of a lack of maternal support.

I have a patient who was a political science professor and although very liberal he greatly admired Pres Nixon. There is a reason they say only Nixon could have gotten into China. He was a master politician, just got caught doing shady things. I do admire that he had enough respect for the office though to resign instead of facing impeachment.
