SGT (Join to see) They started doing that when they released Windows 10. It is because they said that Windows 10 was going to be the last version of Windows.
On a side note, they now have a release model for their major patches/ updates similar to what Ubuntu does. 2 Major releases every year and a LTS (called Long Term Servicing Channel or LTSC) every 2 years.
