This reminds me of a seriously disabled person had been grocery shopping using their POV and arrived home .well she had to transport her groceries in little by little..
We had just finished cutting grass and tailoring the edges of the neighbor’s home so we got over next door to help her get the rest into the house. She had quite a lot.. we seen she had a lot to move so we could get stuff in the fridge and cabinets.. so we spent the next 3 hours rearranging and getting stuff put away.. geez.. I don’t think she’s a hoarder but considering her sit-rep, Being Disabled and not being able to climb stairs without great strain.. she had a lot of items on the main floor.. I wasn’t meaning to be nosy.. but by talking to her, We found her step-son whom she adopted when he was 10 ..
had gone in the Navy and a Nam Vet.. well under our Rules In the V.F.W. She. Could bring her deceased step-son’s DD 214 and join our Auxiliary.. So we got her down to the Post and turned her over to one of the Auxiliary ladies.. who got her signed up.. they told they were meeting that night.. the Post quartermaster vetted the DD 214 for the Aux. So she was good to go.. Well the ladies took it from there.
Soon they were helping her like good sisters get her house in good shape.. which I heard she really appreciated..
The members of the Post tore out her old wood ramp and installed one with a power lift.. some of the guys raised the floor by her sink and cupboards so she could sit and do dishes.. It was as if we were doing it for her step-son .. She’s one of the Post’s family and we try to look after those that need it. We found she was diabetic, The Service officer knew some VA rules that can be used to help disabled family members of deceased Vets. .. It was arranged for a nurse practitioner to check on her, made sure she got her meds taken at the right time., helped her bathe... our guys installed a power lifter to sit in to get into the tub for her.. We had various items in our storage shed to help Vets and family that need assistance.
This was at my former Post.. all this went on .. I don’t know if she took any chair woman positions, I know she got out of her home more now that she had some new family to look out for her. .. Her car was adapted for use by a handicapped. Person.. it got harder for her to drive and in appreciation for what the Post done she donated her car to help a Veteran whose car had quit on him.. He told me when I stopped by to visit there that it might be old but runs like a dream... He says he goes and gets her, they go shopping.. hmm .. I be surmising it could turn into s’thing.. maybe...
