I thought trump was going to lower cost of what the Government does. But because his wife doesn't want to live in the White House, the NYPD says cost to protect them (wife & son) is $127k-$145K a day or around $4 million a month. How does this make any sense in cutting cost?

For the same reason all other presidents and their immediate families are provided with SS protection, even while traveling around the world on multiple vacations. If you don't like it, get your representatives to change the law for all presidents and family. everyone was concerned about the families of appointees when their ticket didn't get punched for the new administration, why not Trump's family. Oh, BTW,

Sgt Bruce C. - You could work for the NYT or Washington Post, given your penchant for revising stories. No business or facility shuts down as a result of an employment freeze, and I have explained the reason for the delay along with the statutes REQUIRING SS Protection. It's not optional.

Most things in life are optional, Trump could of easily moved his wife and son to the White House, people move their kids every year in the middle of school years. He didn't because he didn't want to and doesn't care about the cost of what he has done, because it affects him.
As for the other places that he as affected, it doesn't affect him, so I bet he doesn't care. As for the other story, hiring freezes can affect operation if say the people moving/leaving are dependents and move away and there is no one to replace them, you are just not looking at what could be alternative reason for how a hiring freeze can affect facilities. I don't take it a face valve, because I am not there or know anyone working at that place so I am thinking of reason why it could happen.
Don't read the papers.
I would also bet that if Hillary or a Dem had been elected and had a kid in school and did this, a bunch of people would be screaming of how much money this is costing. I really don't care if its Trump or someone else, I didn't vote for either of them.
