Why Schools Are Racing to Ban Student Phones: As the new school year starts, a wave of new laws that aim to curb distracted learning is taking effect in Indiana, Louisiana and other states.
MY SAY: Ignorance. The smart phone is a TOOL. The job of public education is to TEACH or FACILITATE learning, not send it back to the dark ages. How about come up with ways to INTEGRATE smart phones into the curriculum? Isn't part of what education is supposed to do is PREPARE STUDENTS for the REAL WORLD? Will employers start to lock away phones as well? Should they? How about in the sciences, medicine, arts, journalism and public service? Where do you draw the line and why?

Unless you are a teacher you don't understand why they needed to be banned. They banned them in our classrooms bell to bell. They can have them between classes and lunch. The students have chromebooks for classroom use. Phones are a major pain in the classroom because 99% of the time they are not using it for instructional material. They are listening to music, texting or surfing youtube. Yes, there is a reason for banning them. We survived without them in class and so can today's students.
