We were spoiled in early 2003 Iraq. We had Cubans almost every night. I wasn't a cigar smoker and didn't appreciate the score, but they were everywhere. By 2007, they were non-existent.

Coming from a guy that was a Marine Guard at the then U.S. Interests Section in Havana, I think this is long overdue. I spent a year in lovely Havana and they have a lot to offer. However, people need to realize that these gestures won't really change anything. However, the first cigar I smoked was a real Montecristo Cuban (actually rolled that day - no kidding). I've been spoiled since. The only true cuban rum now is Havana Club and compared to others its just ok. Anyway, this will flood money into the Cuban government but not really affect the commoner in Cuba. That change needs to come within. Keep in mind, Raul was Fidel's head of internal security (read into that the muscle that kept everyone in line). Not sure what Obama is trying to accomplish here, but my take is it will make American's happy they have access to their cigars and rum, but for Cuba it means more revenue for the government. Pick your side...
