Interesting. I remember as a recruiter in the 90s, we had a guy turn himself in after 25 years.

We called AWOL apprehension, they sent us plane tickets to Fort Leavenworth. Not for incarceration, just to out-process. I think the local Sheriffs escorted him to the airport.
